Randal Terry and Ralph Reed resurface the same week. Both are cynical opportunists, who smell prey. Their prey are voters who still haven't accepted the results of last fall's election and who's worries and fears are being flamed by right wing media. Reed and Terry smell their fear and are moving in to capitalize on it and corral it for their own attempts to regain the spotlight and so called power. predictable, like buzzards, they show up when there's pickins to be had. .

fearmongering from the right: trying to tie liberals and Obama to fascism

This isn't the start I would have imagined, but a friend forwarded me an article today, which he wanted me to consider. My friend is an intelligent man, all the more reason I found it difficult to understand why he considered this article worthy of reading ,let alone believing. My friend is conservative and 'worried' about the direction this nation is headed. OK, lots of folks are worried. But as I read the article, published on July 11, in the Washington Times, entitled "Certain Fascist affinities", and authored by Jeffrey Kuhner , I began to see just how some highly cynical and delusional pundits are calling themselves 'conservatives', and preying on the fears of conservative leaning people like my friend. Here is my analysis of that article and what I wrote to my friend.

What is see here is the author is making some huge , and what I consider to be extremely far fetched and distasteful connections.

Because Kuhner has found a way to link together in history, the words 'fascist' and 'leftist' he attempts to extend that connection from European fascism of the early -mid 20th century to President Obama , and the United States in early 21st century.

Must look great on Kuhner's personal flow chart! He heavy handedly tries to associate in the reader's mind, the words 'left ', 'liberal',' Obama ' and 'federal spending' with ' Hitler' ,'Stalin', 'Fascism', etc. His entire premise is based on the reader swallowing that assumption, (along with his inevitable hero being, you guessed it, 'Judeo-Christian conservatives.')

He does this by reminding the reader about highly charged examples from history which we as Americans find horrific,( Stalin, Mussolini, Fascism, etc.) , and then tries, by association, to charge up our emotions and make us feel the same way about Obama and American 'leftists' or 'liberal policies', as HE defines them.

In addition, there is a subtle, underlying insinuation, which is that anyone who might be considered 'liberal' or 'left' or 'not conservative' or not judeo christian or who voted for obama, is also a supporter of or at least inadvertently associated with Fascism.

I would like to remind Kuhner that President Obama is the freely elected president of this nation and was voted into office by millions, in fact a majority of, freedom loving Americans. So , you will not be surprised, that I find this article misleading , tacky, cynical, inflammatory and abhorent. To me it reads as political fearmongering, not accurate, insightful, reasoned or truthful analysis . It both preys on and feeds the fears of people who are worried, which is pretty low.

What are his positive suggestions here?

What i see in this article is the author stringing together alarming examples from history, and tie them to President Obama("See ! See? I told you he was a Fascist!")

but Kuhners extreme extrapolation, his reasoning and conclusions are grossly flawed, and are shallow,paranoid speculation at most.

I remember Kuhner as the one who attempted to anonymously start false rumors that 'Obama was trained in Islamic madrassas ' as a child. Kuhner has also called President Obama a traitor. To me, he lost whatever credibility he once had as a conservative as he grew more extreme.

I feel sad that my friend is so disillusioned that he has grown to accept as mainstream commentary , these kinds of ravings.
